Bennie Bernard Tharp, 76, of Kingdom City, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at his home. He was born on July 25, 1939, in Fulton, the son of the late Westwood Tharp and the late Grace (Bonard) Tharp. On August 1, 1964, Bennie was united in marriage to Shirley (Byrd) Tharp. She survives his passing. Bennie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking rides in the country. He loved listening to old country music and spending time with his dog, Otis Lee (sorry you never got braces Otis). The times he most enjoyed were those spent in the presence of his family and grandchildren. Bennie was good with his hands and building things. He built his first log cabin when he was in his teens and continued working in the construction industry until his health no longer allowed. He liked to draw and would send his family to the store with a drawing to ensure they returned with the correct item. His loss will be deeply felt by his wife of 51 years; daughters, Lori Teel (Jeff) of Kingdom City, and Mari "Missy" Tharp of Calwood; sister, Sandra Fritz (Ronnie) of Fulton; grandchildren, Brittaney Huddleston, Lindsey Teel, Hailey Salmons, Jesse Wright, and Devon Teel; great-grandchildren, Jadynn Huddleston, Caden Teel, Connor Huddleston, Paxton Abbett, and Cooper Webb; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Pamela Tharp; and brother, Robert Tharp. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to VFW Post 2657, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251. Condolences may be left for the family at maupinfuneralhome.com.
