Kelley Joe Heather, 51 of New Bloomfield, Mo., was ushered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Kelley was born December 24, 1964, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Roger and Jeannine (Cornett) Heather. On October 26, 1985, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Sheila D. (Villa) Heather. He attended Jefferson City High School and then earned his Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. Kelley's passion was law enforcement. He began his career in 1987 in Holts Summit where he worked with his Dad and later became the first full-time officer for the department. He continued his career with the Fulton Police Department as Sergeant. He helped start the Community Policing, he was the first on bike patrol and he was so proud of his work as a K-9 unit handler. He took a short break from local police work to join the Civilian Police Mission in Kosovo through the UN in 1999. After leaving Fulton's department he worked for Auxvasse as an officer and then police chief of New Bloomfield. Due to health reasons, he finished his career early as a deputy with Gasconade County Sheriff's Department. He worked as a firearm's instructor and most recently conducted Concealed Carry Classes. Kelley enjoyed singing. He began with singing in church and then found himself performing special songs for various events. However, nothing over-shadowed his love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Sheila of the home; daughter, Amber Gann and husband Mike of Holts Summit; son, Kyle Heather of the home; brother, Kevin Heather and wife Beverly of Irving, Texas; sister, Stacey Eickhorst and husband Jonathan of New Bloomfield; beloved grandson, Brogan Gann of New Bloomfield; his lifelong best friend, Mike Cummins of Holts Summit; and various other family members and friends.
