George Luther Neal, 83, of Fayette, joined his wife in Heaven on Saturday, January 18, 2014. He was born December 1, 1930, in Portland, Mo., the son of the late George Neal and the late Lydia L. (Wenger) Neal. George was united in marriage to Shirley Faye Spillars on July 6, 1952. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2013. Family came first in George's life. He took great pride in them and worked hard to ensure they had all they needed. He enjoyed farming and in his spare time, fishing, hunting, and camping. George served in the armed forces from February 8, 1952 until January 16, 1954. Those remaining to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include nine children, George Allen Neal (Barb) of Fulton, Steven Lee Neal of Fayette, Patricia Ann Bowen of Fulton, Melvin Neal of Fayette, Carolyn Sue Teeter (Ken) of Ashland, Joyce Uebinger (Gary) of Williamsburg, Kathy Lee of Fayette, Ricky Neal of Fulton, and Larry Neal of Fulton; one brother, Harry Neal; two sisters, Maxine Gilman and Virginia Higgins; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Along with his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy Simpson; one brother, and seven sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at Maupin Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service. Interment will be in Central Christian Church Cemetery.
