Eliza Mae Braxton

Eliza Mae Braxton, 89, of Fulton, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab while surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 31, 1924, in Santa Fe, Missouri, the daughter of the late Buford Gardner and the late Minnie (Hutchins) Gardner. Eliza was united in marriage to John W. Braxton. He preceded her in death in 1991. She graduated from Garfield High School in Mexico, Mo. She was employed at Westminster College and later retired from Missouri School for the Deaf. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church where she diligently volunteered preparing meals in the church kitchen for various activities. Those remaining to mourn her loss include two sons, John Braxton (Mary) of Columbia, Mo., and Charles Braxton (Anna) of Fulton; three daughters, Della Richmond (William) of Fulton, Lynette Wise of St. Louis, and Minnie Bates of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren, Leah, Angela, Crystal, Rachelle, Mary Kay, Dexter, Gina, Neal, Charles, Michael, Roosevelt, Candace, Deshawna, Minette, Thomas, Rick, and Lenona; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, Eliza was preceded in death by two sons, Allen Black and Gary Braxton; grandson, Keith Black; five brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church in Fulton with Reverend William Butler Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in New London, Mo. The family will return to the church for repast following burial.
