Arthur W. Salmons, 77, of Fulton, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab. He was born June 6, 1936, in Fulton, the son of the late Roy and Dorothy (Wright) Salmons. Art was united in marriage to Carole Friesz on October 27, 1979. She survives his passing. Art graduated from Fulton High School and from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He proudly served in the United States Air Force doing intelligence work. He held many jobs including teaching school in Denton, Texas, working for his father in his trucking business, and Montgomery County Division of Family Services. He retired from the Probation and Parole Office in Fulton. Following retirement, he drove a bus for SERVE, Inc., enjoyed raising and selling daylilies and irises, going to flea markets, and time spent with his dogs and cats. Along with his wife, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Cheryl Salmons Van Kirk (Scott) of Harrisburg; step-sons, Jim Armistead (Mindy) of St. Louis, and Mitch Armistead (Dawna) of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Dacia Graham of Fulton, Dara McClain of Houston, Texas; step-grandchildren, Drew, Reed, and Eric Armistead of St. Louis; six great-grandchildren; two half-sisters; and other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judith Wilson; and step-daughter, Kris Armistead. Art's wishes were to be cremated. No visitation or services will be held at this time.
