Jackie (Jack) Dean Shepherd, age 81, of Mokane, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Oak Tree Villa Skilled Nursing Facility, Jefferson City. Jack was born November 3, 1932, in Woods, Kan., a son of the late William and Lucy Mae (Hoskinson) Shepherd. On February 14, 1952, Jack was united in marriage to Rovena McBride in Humansville. She survives of the home. Jack worked as a lineman for several telephone companies over the years, including Kingdom Telephone Company in Auxvasse. He and Rovena owned and operated the Steedman General Store in Steedman from 1973 to 1978. Jack had many hobbies he enjoyed over the years: archery, fishing, gardening, traveling and mineral and gem collecting. He was a member of the Mokane Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Volunteer Fire Department and Mokane Lions Club. Jack was a member of the Hams Prairie Christian Church. Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Rovena Shepherd; three daughters, Teresa (Charlie) Pritchard of Jefferson City, Vivian (Harry) Edwards of Mokane, and Linda (Angel) Davila of Baton Rouge, La.; one son, Steve Shepherd of Steedman; grandchildren, LeAnn (Chris) Cash, Matt (Rachel) Pritchard, Becky (Scott) Smail, and Brian Edwards; great-grandchildren, Tanner Mertens, Megan Mertens, Mickie Cash, Cohen Cash, Landen Pritchard, Austin Pritchard, Ethan Pritchard, Olivia Smail and Madelyn Smail; two brothers, Billy Ray (Nora Mae) Shepherd and Jerry Shepherd; and one sister, Barbara (Wayne) Hardman. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister-in-law. A celebration of his life by the family will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of Heartland Cremation of Columbia.
