Jesse Stephens, 94, of Kingdom City, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab. He was born March 17, 1919, in Audrain County, one of five children born to the late Reuel B. Stephens and Myrtle Belle (Dudley) Stephens. He was united in marriage to Rita Robinson on September 26, 1940. She preceded him in death. Jesse spent most of his 94 years living, working, farming, and raising his family in Callaway County. He had a real estate license and sold real estate along with his wife Rita at Stephens Real Estate and Insurance at 508 Court Street during the 1950's. Jesse's booming voice could be heard auctioning estate sales and farm sales. He was also co-owner of Callaway Livestock Sales in Fulton. Jesse enjoyed many years of bowling with friends in Fulton. Week long trail rides with Rita and various friends occupied his time as well for over 20 years. Jesse will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband who cared for Rita during her final difficult years as well as a loving and feisty father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jesse is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Kay) Stephens of Savannah, Tenn., and Gary Stephens of St. Charles, Mo.; five grandchildren, Rick Stephens, Dana Greene, Amy Stephens, Pam Rhea, and Greg Stephens. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren. Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; two brothers, Clark Stephens and Richard Stephens; sisters, Pauline Shiverdecker and Lucille Lindsay. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Reverend Terry Lippstreu officiating. Interment will follow at Auxvasse Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at Maupin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jesse to McCredie Methodist Church in Kingdom City, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO. 65251.
