Donna Pickering

Donna Ray Pickering, 78, of Fulton, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Fulton Presbyterian Manor. Donna was born on Sept. 26, 1934, in Lebanon, Mo., a daughter of Roy Raymond and Freda Grace (Bell) Cox. On January 22, 1956, in Fulton, she married Donald D. Pickering, who preceded her in death on May 27, 2007. Donna was a graduate from Jefferson City High School. She owned and operated the Pompeii Dress Shop in Fulton for several years. She was a member of the DAR. She loved reading books, sketching, wood carving, travel, cooking, canning and gardening. Survivors include: three sons, John Thomas Pickering and wife Darla of Fulton, James Blake Pickering and wife Carol of Mokane, and Robert Lanier Pickering and wife Karen of Bloomsdale, Mo.; two daughters, Tricia Miller and husband Dale of Denton, Texas, and Mary Elizabeth Gordon and husband Jeff of Fulton; one brother, William A. Cox and wife Margaret; two sisters, Marie D. Obermiller of Columbia, and Betty L. Chapman of Lee's Summit; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William A. Cox; and three brothers-in-law, Lawson B. Obermiller, William Chapman, and Junior Pickering. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City, with Rev. Bruce Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Mary and Jeff Gordon, 413 State Road Z, Fulton after 1 p.m., Monday. Memorials may be given to the Hospice Compassus.
