Dorothy Ann Whyte French

Dorothy Ann Whyte Ferguson French, 85, of Fulton, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Fulton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born August 8, 1928, in the Kansas City, Missouri area and placed in the Carrolton County Orphan Home. Dorothy was adopted at a very young age by the Stock/Whyte family in Tebbetts, Missouri and spent most of her life in the Callaway County area. Dorothy attended several one room school houses. She went to the Mokane High School for two years and then attended the New Bloomfield High School where she graduated. She was united in marriage to George Ferguson on February 16, 1946. Two children were born to this marriage, a daughter, Georgia and son, J.R. "Jake" Ferguson. Georgia (Darrell) Haymart have two daughters, Toni (Jim) Klick and family; Tara Gall and her daughter, Samantha Gall her great-great-granddaughter and Marine (Michael) Clark and family, Brian, Bailey, Dustin and Austin. J.R "Jake" Ferguson had three children; Cindy Ferguson and family, Aaron, Andrew, Allison and Aiden, Kate Henderson and family, Keeley, Elise and Dristan and one grandson Will Ferguson. Other very good friends are Charles Pemberton, Colleen Thurman and Holly Dudley. She was a secretary, bookkeeper and clerk, among other duties, for M.F.A. in Fulton for 37 years. After retiring in poor health, she started traveling, mostly to South Padre Island, Texas for winters only. Then met and married her husband, Harold French from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. They were winter Texans for two years (she kept her home in Fulton) before moving down there full time. Besides the weather and ocean, of which both loved, the most precious of all was meeting and "adopting" the wonderful Mexican family of Juan and Eugena Barrera in Weslaco, Texas. The Barrera's had four children, Gilberto, Adrianna, Beatrice and her daughter, "little Sophia", and as we like to say now our youngest grandchild, Veronica. Veronica and Terrance Ousley married in May 2012, in Dallas, Texas and Dorothy was the great honored grandmother and got to attend. Dorothy was a great cook and housekeeper; she was always most happy to have her family and friends into her home for a great meal. She was also a supreme seamstress and made quilts with every family member receiving at least one as well as many good friends. She loved life and people and enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and yard work. She he was an avid card player with pinochle being her favorite. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church, The Kingdom Belles Red Hat Society, and the Fulton Senior Center. Preceding her in death were her husband's and her beloved son J. R. "Jake" Ferguson in May 2010. Dorothy requested cremation with private services at a later date.
