Carl W. McClellan, 64, of Columbia, Mo., passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Carl was born August 1, 1949, to Amanda Forsee McClellan and William Douglas McClellan in Fulton, Mo. Carl attended Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., and served in the United States Army Reserves where he fought in Vietnam. On May 18, 1982, he married Connie Grossarth Hutter in Columbia, Mo. On July 31, 2013, Carl retired after 41 years of service as an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group in Columbia, Mo. Anyone who knew Carl appreciated his sense of humor, as well as his devotion to his friends, family and customers. Carl was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. He was passionate about his yard and garden, spending many hours tending to his beautiful lawn. He was a talented joke and story teller, and enjoyed sharing this gift with his friends. Carl was loved by everyone who knew him and will be missed by all. Carl is survived by his wife, Connie McClellan of Columbia Mo.; a daughter, Jane McClellan (Jamie Bowman) of Canton, Ohio; a son, John Douglas (Chrissa) McClellan of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren, Clara Bowman, Maggie Bowman, and Kane McClellan; sisters, Nadine (Bill) Gentzsch and Lois (J.H.) Long of Millersburg, Mo.; nieces, Shea Gentzsch, Melanie (Jeremy) Czeschin, of Fulton, Mo. and nephew, Brent (Tracy) Long, of Millersburg, Mo., along with four great-nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for Carl will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, October 27, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Memorial service will be held immediately following in the Memorial Funeral Home from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A celebration of Carl's life will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m with the location to be announced at the services.
