Jerald Duane McCarty

Jerald "Jerry" Duane McCarty Sr., 68, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at his home. Mr. McCarty was born on February 27, 1945, in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Richard and Gertrude (Schumaker) McCarty. Jerry attended St. Ellen's Catholic Grade School and Emmetsburg High School. He attended Eastern New Mexico University on a golf scholarship. Jerry married Mary Frances "Fran" Curtin on February 14, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. Jerry was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. He gave unconditional love and support to all of his family. Mr. McCarty is survived by his wife, Fran, and two sons-JD (Tracey) and Collin (Erin), and six grandchildren-Connor, Carson, Cade, CJ, Maddoch, and Malley all of Columbia. He is also survived by his brother, Dick (Cindy) McCarty of Raleigh, N.C. and sisters Barb Lukusvsky of Des Moines, Iowa and Martha McCarty of Kansas City, many nieces and nephews, and friends. The family will gather with friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9. at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. There will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Jerry's health may have failed him in his final years, but his spirit prevails.
