Troy D. King, Sr., 87, of Maplewood Mo., passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013. He was laid to rest with military honors on Friday, November 7th, 2013, at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Troy was born October 29, 1926, in Dent County Mo. and is the son of the late Charley & Ruth (Nelson) King. He grew up on a farm in Texas County Missouri and graduated from Licking High School. Troy served proudly in the U.S. Army as a Technician Fourth Grade (Mechanic) with the 66th Infantry in Germany during World War II. He often talked about his opportunity to attend the Nuremburg Trials during a short stay in Nuremburg at the end of the war. Troy was united in marriage to Bertha Munro on November 19, 1949. To this union 3 children were born; Troy Jr., Don, and Betty. Troy worked as a journeyman machinist until he retired in 1988. When he wasn't working, he was spending time with his family or tinkering with a car. He couldn't resist taking things apart just to see how they worked. There was very little that he couldn't fix. After retirement, Troy and Bertha enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. in their travel trailer. While they enjoyed seeing new places, they also often visited Edisto Island, S.C. where they could camp right on the ocean. Left to mourn him is his wife, Bertha, married 64 years, his son, Troy King Jr. (Lynn) Maplewood, Mo., son, Don King (Vicki), New Bloomfield, Mo. and daughter, Betty (Bill) Nelson, Buffalo, Mo., seven grandchildren, Jeff (Alicia) King; Dawn (Todd) Tibbets; Bill (Jen) Nelson Jr.; Erin King; Scott Hopsecker; Casey King; Kevin King; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Hiram (Bonnie) King; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
