Treva Louise Farmer, 88, a lifelong resident of Callaway County, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Fulton Manor Care Center, Fulton, Mo. She was born on August 9, 1924, the daughter of Obie and Eva Pearl (Menefee) Herring and celebrated her birthday on that day until she filed for Social Security where she was told that her birth certificate listed her birthday as August 7th. I told her to celebrate on both days; but she quickly responded that birthdays come too quickly as it is, she didn't need any more. Treva grew up in Fulton, graduated from Fulton High and prior to marriage worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell. On January 6, 1946, she married James Monroe Farmer and they moved to a farm seven miles east of Fulton where they lived the majority of their lives. Treva was an active member of Unity Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Treva and Jim had six children, all of whom are still living: Terry Lynn and Loretta Farmer, Larry Dale and Etta Farmer and Mary Kay and Byard Sheridan all of Fulton, Katherine Louise Wynn of Hillsboro, Donna Sue Bentele of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Monroe Glen and Marilyn Farmer of Raytown. Treva is survived by her children listed above, 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandkids and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed. Treva had two sisters, Genive and Irene and two brothers, Frank and Charles (C.W.), all of whom preceded her as did her husband Jim, who died on Dec. 8, 2004. Treva's health started declining after Jim died and she lived in assisted living and nursing homes the last few years of her life. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Callaway Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Unity Baptist Church c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Blvd., Fulton, MO 65251. Online condolences may be shared at www.MaupinFuneralHome.com.
