Minnie Jane (Hughes) Rice, 86, of Fulton, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. She was born August 21, 1926, in Fulton, the daughter of the late Ezra and Margaret S. Hughes. Minnie was united in marriage to Earl R. Rice, who preceded her in death in 1983. Minnie enjoyed watching and feeding wildlife and having lunch with her friends Dorothy Magruder and Alene Griggs. She also enjoyed when her grandchildren visited. Minnie will be remembered as a loving mother, a good friend, and a source of great strength and solitude. She always spoke her mind and made no apologies for what she thought, endearing qualities to those who knew and loved her. Minnie was a beautiful person inside and out. Minnie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Janice K. Humphrey and husband, Ronald of Fulton, Mary Katherine Rude and husband Russell of Fulton, and Margaret Kimberly Rice-Holden and husband Tom of Northampton, Mass.; three granddaughters, Ronda Kay Humphrey, Shawn Humphrey, and Savannah Holden; two grandsons, Justin Liley and Cade Holden; three great-grandchildren, Izabella, Lillian, and Colin; one sister, Stella M. Storms of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; one brother, Dr. James L. Hughes and wife Sue of Roanoke, Va.; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Rice of Fulton. In addition to her parents and her husband, Minnie was preceded in death by one son, Keith Rice; and two sisters, Irene Turpin and Mary F. Harris. Graveside services will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Callaway Memorial Gardens with Reverend Martin Stukenborg officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00-11:45 a.m. on Wednesday at Maupin Funeral Home.
