Charles "Wally" Richard Waltrip

Charles Richard "Wally" Waltrip, 90, of Fulton, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. Mr. Waltrip was born April 12, 1922, in Hartzell, Mo., the son of the late Gertie Waltrip and the late Adelia Waltrip. On April 23, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty (Allstun) Waltrip, who preceded Wally in death on September, 17, 2005. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II in the Army 13th Air Force as a radar operator and gunner on B-24 bombers in the South Pacific. Following the war, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He managed department stores in Kirksville, Edina and Brookfield; and Kelly's Furniture in Fulton and Milo H. Walz in Columbia. He owned and operated Wally's Furniture in Ashland, Mo. He was a member of the Court Street United Methodist Church, Fulton. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, playing golf, working in his garden and workshop and spending time with his family. Wally is missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Richard Waltrip of Spokane, Wash. and Scott Waltrip and wife Sue of Hams Prairie, Mo.; one daughter, Ruth Meentemeyer and husband Bruce of Hartsburg, Mo.; four grandchildren, Katie, Brad, Price and Ian; one great-grandchild, Jack; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and his wife of 55 years, Wally was preceded in death by four brothers, Glenn, Ed, Price Ray and Gene; two sisters, Mildred and Louise; daughter-in-law, Anne Hardie and grandson, Matthew Hardie, both of Spokane, Wash. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2012, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012, also at Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors.
