Ione Cardiff

Ione Cardiff, 89, of Auxvasse, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Golden Living Center-Pin Oaks in Mexico. Ione was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Rend City, Ill., to William Marion and Cleo Gwendolyn Reynolds McCarty. On March 22, 1946, she married William Burns Batts in Cape Girardeau, Mo. They had six children in their 24-year marriage. On July 1, 1971, she married Donald Glenn Cardiff in Carson City, Nev. Together they owned and operated small businesses in California, Missouri and Texas, producing and selling fiberglass boats and camper shells. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2010. Ione graduated from Benton High School in 1940. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for a variety of businesses in Illinois, Kentucky, California, Missouri and Texas. Ione had resided in Golden Living Center-Pin Oaks for the past 1Ω years. Ione is survived by five children: Vicki Stephens and her husband Jim of Georgetown, Texas; Steven Batts of Mentone, Calif.; Kathy Casteel and her husband Stan of Auxvasse; Marla Young and her husband Taylor of Georgetown, Texas; and Curtis Batts and his wife Carla of Liberty Hill, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Gabe McCarty of West Frankfort, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents; her sister, Esther and a son, Michael R. Batts. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, Ill. Interment will follow in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will precede the service at 1 p.m. Local arrangements are under the direction of Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton.
