Reverend Edwin (Ed) Roy Saferite

Reverend Edwin (Ed) Roy Saferite, 80, passed away August 27, 2012 at his home in Tenn. He was born October 28, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan. He graduated from John Rogers High School (Spokane, Wash.), attended Baker University (Baldwin City, Kan.), College of Puget Sound (Tacoma, Wash.), Garret Theological Seminary (Evanston, Ill.), and received his Master of Divinity from Eden Seminary (St. Louis). Rev. Saferite served sixty years in United Methodist ministry, six years as an Industrial Chaplain for Boise Cascade (St. Louis), and founded Alternative Tours, Inc. (Fulton). He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his ability as a preacher, his sensitivity to social issues, and his love for his family. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Roy Charles Saferite and Della Grace Brown; his first wife, Helen Clark Saferite; and his step-daughter, Patricia Ann Kelley. He is survived by: his loving wife, Sharon Smith Saferite; his daughters, Michelle Saferite and Angela Heney of Cali.; his sons, Mark (Hang) Saferite of Ariz. and Todd (Angela) Saferite of Mo.; his step-daughter, Loraine (Jim) Humphrey of Tenn.; his step-son, John (Elizabeth) Kelley of Ala.; sixteen grandchildren; his siblings; Jacqueline McCubbin of Ariz., Dann (Gene) Gesch, Cali.; Norman (Judy) Ark.; and Ronald Saferite, Cali.; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Loraine Smith; and his faithful dog, Abby. A memorial service will be held, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill. with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to: Hospice of Cumberland County, 30 East Adam Street, Crossville, TN 38555; New Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 323 Redwood Drive, New Bloomfield, MO 65063; or KSDS, Inc.
