Jean Books

Jean Books, 69, of Maryland Heights, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011, at her home. Formerly of the Williamsburg area, she was born to Marvin and Clara Craighead Books in Fulton on September 16, 1941. Jean was a graduate of Fulton High School in 1959. She graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College, now Truman State University, in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Jean then graduated in 1967 from the University of Missouri with a Master's Degree in Education. Jean's teaching career included several years in Arizona on an Indian Reservation and a short period of time in California. The remainder of her career was spent teaching third grade in the Pattonville School District in St. Louis County. After retirement, Jean spent 14 years as a transportation volunteer with St. Louis County's Older Resident Program. This volunteer work gave her a great sense of satisfaction by helping those in need. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Beth Books, Williamsburg; sister and brother-in-law, Willene and Robert Overfelt, Auxvasse; one niece, Sandra Dempsey, Rolla; three nephews, Andrew Landfather and wife Jing, of Denver, Colo., Jason Books and wife Jennifer, Williamsburg, and Jonathan Books, Williamsburg; one aunt, Margaret Craighead, Fulton; as well as cousins, great- nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents and a niece, Ashley E. Books. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
