Maurice T. Stack

Maurice T. Stack, 89, of Fulton, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. Maurice was born May 14, 1922, in Miller, S.D., to Leonard and Ella Nora Stack. His parents moved back to Missouri when he was a small boy. Maurice was raised on a farm in Doniphan. Maurice graduated from Doniphan High School in 1940. He then enrolled in college in Cape Girardeau. In the fall of 1941, he enrolled in National Youth Association in Fulton, graduating in 1941. Following graduation, he went to Seattle, Wash., to work as a carpenter where he helped build hangers for Boeing. While in Seattle, he was joined by Margaret Lander. They were married on September 11, 1942. She survives at their home. They returned to Fulton in 1943, and Maurice joined the Army. He served in Germany and Japan. In 1950 he served with the National Guard in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1952. Maurice purchased Ripka Lumber Company in 1953. He changed the name to Callaway Lumber Company, Inc. and remained at the helm until his retirement in 1989. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife; two children, Robert Stack and his wife Gwen of Fulton and Renee Graham and husband Tim of Columbia; two sisters, Lenora Shay and husband Paul of Fulton, Loretta Sullivan (late husband, Ray) of St. Genevieve; and brother-in-law, Sam Famous of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Jason Stack of Fulton, Mandy Stack-Holland and husband Michael of Fulton, and Eric Wright and fiancee Shannon Barnes of Columbia; one great-grandchild, Luke Holland; another great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fulton, with Father Karl Barmann and Father I. C. Medina co-officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May, 19, 2011, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. In lieu of customary memorials, the family suggests donations be made in Maurice's name to St. Peter's Catholic Church or Callaway Senior Center, c/o Debo Funeral Home, P.O.
