Martha Irene Schmidt

Martha Irene Schmidt, 76, of Fulton, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at University Hospital. She was born September 18, 1934, in Bluffton, the daughter of the late Walter and Ethel (McGarvin) Stiers. On March 4, 1977, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Schmidt, who preceded her in death on April 13, 1993. Martha had worked at Brown Shoe Company, International Shoe Company and as a cook at Maggie's Restaurant in New Florence and at Doris' Restaurant in Fulton for several years. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, playing cards, cooking and quilting. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, James W. Smith of Fulton; two grandchildren, Jenna W. Smith and Trevor G. Smith, both of Fulton; one sister, Esther Levings of Auxvasse; a special niece, Rebecca Schmidt of Martinsburg; and a special friend, Bill Vaughn. Her parents, husband, and six brothers preceded her in death. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, with Pastor Steve Mallinckrodt officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton.
