Edmund Winfield

Edmund Winfield, 92, of West Liberty, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at his home. He died surrounded by his four children, the eldest being Linda (Charles) Roe of Fulton. He is also survived by five grandchildren, including Jennifer (Aaron) Stoker of Fulton, and Anna Roe of Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Winfield served in the Navy during World War II, part of that time aboard the USS Corrigedor. He owned Winfield's Grocery in West Liberty for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luetta Winfield, six years ago. A Funeral Mass was held in West Liberty on Saturday, July 16, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial was at Nichols' Cemetery of Nichols, Iowa. At graveside, a flag presentation was given for his service in the Navy, and the local VFW gave him a 21-gun salute and played Taps.
