James Gilmore

James Wilson "Red" Gilmore, 93, of Fulton, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Harry S. Truman Veteran's Hospital in Columbia. He was born October 29, 1917, in Howard County, Mo., the son of Charles H e n r y Gilmore and Lucy Frances Ward. He was united in marriage on January 27, 1942, to Opal Mae Christopher who preceded him in death. James lived an active life until just a week ago. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the VFW Post 2657 and Callaway County Senior Center. He was known as a great storyteller and a family man. Left to cherish his memory is one grandson, James Michael Gilmore and wife Jeanine of Aurora, Colo.; two stepgranddaughters, Sarah Suffel and husband Josh of Cleveland, Ohio and Julie Buzard of St. Louis; one daughter-in-law, Susan Gilmore of Columbia, Mo.; and one sister, Ethel Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings, wife, and one son, James Allen "Pepper" Gilmore. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Interment will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, at the funeral home.
