Leonard "Gene" Nelson, 66, of Fulton, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011, at his home. He was born March 22, 1945, in Lebanon, the son of the late Melvin and Ruby (Simmons) Nelson. On April 26, 1964, he was united in marriage to Evelyn (Reid) Nelson, who survives at their home. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Jefferson City. He loved praying for people and serving God. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, trout fishing, wood working, playing guitar and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife of 47 years, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by four sons, Ronnie Nelson and his wife Christine of Lee's Summit, Randy Nelson and his wife Tracy of Lebanon, Russell Nelson and his wife Bonnie of Fulton, Richard Nelson and his wife Janet of Fulton; one daughter, Bonnie Fry and her husband George of Fulton; two brothers, Lonnie Nelson and his wife Carol and Larry Nelson and his wife Tammy of Grovesprings; one sister, Barbara Jemes and her husband Buel of Grovesprings; 18 grandchildren, Nichole, Courtney, Megan, Sarah, Leo Craig, Emily, Natalie, Ruby, Aaron, Nathan, Nichelle, Laura, Taylor, Faith, Ethan, Gracie, Andrew and Landon. His parents; and one brother, James Nelson; preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, with Pastor Gary Behrns and Pastor John Long officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. Interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery.
