Sibyl McIntire

Sibyl Carmen White Rand McIntire, 92, of Fulton, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Riverview Nursing Center in Mokane. She was born May 3, 1919, in Welch, W. Va., the first of 10 children born to Glenn and Kathlene Giselle Belcher White. Carmen married Bernhardt Donald Kornmann in 1941. To this union was born a daughter, Sibyl Kathleen White of Wimberley, Texas; and a son, Bernhardt Donald Kornmann Jr., who passed away in 2008. She married Willard Calvin Rand in 1954. To this union three daughters were born, Roberta Jean Rand and twins Desirae Gieseman (husband Mark) and Dolores Heil (husband Mike). Following graduation from high school, she worked in Welch for a year then moved to North Tazewell, Va., where she worked at J. W. Whitley and Son until moving to Dallas, Texas. She lived in Dallas for 15 years. In 1949 she began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Following her marriage to Willard Rand (Lt. Col, ret., U.S.M.C.), she moved to St. Louis when he was transferred there. In 1962 she accepted a position with the Webster Groves Chamber of Commerce. From then on, she dedicated herself to community service. She attended United States Chamber of Commerce professional seminars in Houston, Fort Worth, and Dallas, Texas. In 1965 Carmen and her family moved to Fulton, where she and Willard worked as a team at William Woods and Westminster Colleges. Carmen resigned after six months to accept the executive position over the Fulton Chamber of Commerce, which she held for the next five years. In 1970, the Rands moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where Carmen became Assistant Manager of the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce. In 1973, she returned to the Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Following a divorce in 1975, she moved to St. Charles, Mo., to become Executive Vice President of that Chamber of Commerce. She married Harry McIntire in Fulton on August 1, 1975. She returned to the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce in 1978 and retired in 1983. In 1995 she went to work for Bill Backer of Fulton to open and manage the Auto World Car Museum and Kingdom Expo, where she worked for two years. She was a member of the Senior Singers and New Serve Band. In 1995 she joined the Kingdom Belles chapter of the Red Hat Society. She composed the Kingdom Belles theme song, using the melody of "Darling Clementine." Carmen photographed and water-colored 41 barns. She traveled extensively and retired in her 80s to a small house in Fulton. At 90, her daughters gave her a birthday party at First Presbyterian Church in Fulton. The Mayor, Charles Latham, presented her with a plaque citing her contributions to the Kingdom of Callaway. She is also survived by two sisters, Kathlene Parker and Mary Jane Frayer (husband Thomas); one brother, Fred White (wife Pat); five grandchildren, David Morrison, Kathryn Morrison, Rosemary Carmen Jesky, Kathleen Rhoad, and Sarah Johnson; and four great-grandchildren, Evelyn Jesky, Robert Jesky, Georgia Carmen Jesky, and Aubrey Johnson. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn White, Joseph White, and Richard White; and three sisters, Mildred Fuller, Barbara Hurst, and June Sumpter. Carmen's remains will be cremated. A gathering of family and friends will take place Wednesday, August 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a Memorial service Thursday, August 4, at 10:00 a.m., both at First Presbyterian Church, Fulton.
