High school cross country: Distler, New Bloomfield boys sweep titles at South Callaway Invite

MOKANE - Junior Caleb Distler locked up the individual championship in 16 minutes, 43.37 seconds in the varsity boys' division to help carry the Wildcats to the team title of the South Callaway Invitational on Saturday.

New Bloomfield sophomore Nathan Hinrichs trailed Distler in second place as the Wildcats compiled 46 points. Sophomore Brian Figard was 11th in 19:12.88, sophomore Jace Pitzen took 16th in 20:08.51, and sophomore Aidan Carr came in 31st in 21:26.41.

South Callaway junior Dustin Russell finished 10th in 18:33.54 as the Bulldogs did not field a full team. Senior Nathanael Shuler placed 22nd in 20:46.54, freshman Dylan Dugan was 26th in 20:59.48, and junior Kenny Brown took 39th in 23:52.23.

In the varsity girls' division, New Bloomfield sophomore Mikaela Lemelin came in fifth in 22:57.19 as the Lady Wildcats also did not field a complete team. Freshman Mikah Edwards was next in sixth in 22:59.72, sophomore Jillian Pry finished eighth in 23:18.78, and senior Kylie Quinn placed 12th in 23:57.48.

South Callaway junior Karley Patrick took 17th in 26:52.94.

New Bloomfield competes at Wellsville at 4 p.m. Monday. South Callaway runs in the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia at 9 a.m. next Saturday.
