High school softball: New Bloomfield 15, Sturgeon 0

STURGEON - Junior pitcher Sarah Abbott tossed a one-hitter and also delivered three hits and drove in three runs as the Lady Wildcats roughed up the Lady Bulldogs on Friday night.

New Bloomfield (6-1) - which has won three in a row - erupted for five runs in the top of the first inning, one run in the second and three runs in the third to race out to a 9-0 advantage. The Lady Wildcats added a run in the fourth and five more runs in the fifth to end the game on the mercy rule.

Abbott logged eight strikeouts and walked one in moving her season record to 5-1. She was 3-for-3 with a run scored to help spark New Bloomfield's 16-hit blitz.

Sophomore shortstop Ellie Emerson finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, three RBI and scored two runs for the Lady Wildcats. Sophomore catcher Brooke Talbot went 3-for-4 with two RBI and junior right fielder Aislin Jennings was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Freshman designated hitter Raegan Smart finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman left fielder Brinley Dysart went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice.

"The team had a great defensive game behind Abbott," New Bloomfield head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said. "They hit the ball hard and continued to be aggressive on the bases.

"Each game we see confidence building."

The Lady Wildcats triumphed in the junior varsity game 6-0.

New Bloomfield hosts Father Tolton at 5 p.m. Monday.
