High school track and field: Tornado damage forces state track championships to different sites

In the aftermath of the tornado damage sustained in Jefferson City late Wednesday night, the Missouri State High School Activities Association has been forced to move the state track and field championships for Classes 3-5.

Jefferson City High School's Adkins Stadium - the regular site for the state championships - received damage to the track and press box, which had most of its roof torn off.

The championships will now be a Saturday-only event and will be held at three different locations: Class 3 at the University of Missouri's Walton Stadium in Columbia, Class 4 at Washington High School and Class 5 at Battle High School in Columbia.

Fulton senior Brock Fisher and sophomore Kayanna Gaines will compete in Class 4 in the boys' and girls' 1,600 meters, respectively. In Class 3, North Callaway senior Paden Lewis will compete in the boys' shot put and discus, and sophomore Kaleigh Moore will compete in the girls' 3,200.

For those traveling to Washington, the bridge crossing over the Missouri River will be closed Saturday morning. An alternate route will be necessary.
