High school track and field: Ambler paces New Bloomfield state qualifiers in Class 2

MOKANE - Junior Easton Ambler qualified for state with victories in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles in 16.39 and 43.93 seconds, respectively, for the Wildcats at the Class 2, Sectional 2 championships Saturday.

The New Bloomfield boys and girls combined to advance in eight events for the Class 2 state championships beginning Friday at Jefferson City High School's Adkins Stadium. The top four sectional finishers moved on in each event.

Sophomore Caleb Distler won the 800 in 2:03.61 and came in third in the 3,200 (10:24.11) as the New Blooomfield boys placed seventh in Sectional 2 with 57 points. Senior Aliczander Nikonowicz was third in the 300 hurdles (:43.90) and sophomore Adam Deppe finished third in the 110 hurdles (:16.78).

Distler and Nikonowicz teamed with freshmen Nathan Hinrichs and Brian Figard to take fourth in the 3,200 relay (8:56.13).

In the girls' division, sophomore Auburn Feathers triumphed in the discus at 108 feet, 1 inch as the New Bloomfield girls finished ninth with 38 points. Junior Madi Branch came in third in the javelin (100-0) and freshman Brooke Talbot was fourth in the pole vault (7-9).

Steelville and Fayette won the girls' and boys' Sectional 2 team titles, respectively, with 89 and 88 points.
