Track and Field: New Bloomfield girls finish in third place at districts

MOKANE - The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats finished third out of 12 teams at the Class 2 District 3 meet, while the Wildcats placed fifth in districts at South Callaway High School.

The New Bloomfield girls recorded eight top-four finishes to post 79.5 points. Hermann won the district title with 79.5 points, while Cole Camp was second with 115 points.

The New Bloomfield boys won two individual district title and finished with 75 points in the team standings. Fayette won the team title with 123 points and Hermann was runner-up with 116.

Easton Ambler won the boys 110-meter hurdles for the Wildcats. After posting the fastest time in preliminaries, Ambler then ran in 16.39 seconds in the finals. His teammate, Adam Deppe, added a fourth-place finish in the event in 16.95 seconds.

New Bloomfield's other first-place finish at districts came from Aliczander Nikonowicz, who clocked a time of 43.20 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. Ambler placed second in the event with a time of 43.93 seconds.

Caleb Distler qualified for sectionals in three events for the Wildcats. The top-four finishers in each event at district will advance to the Class 2 Sectional 2 meet Saturday at South Callaway.

Distler ran the 4x800-meter relay with Nathan Hinrichs, Nikonowicz and Brian Figard. They posted a second-place time of 9:07.16.

Distler also took second in the 800-meter run (2:05.35) and third in the 3,200-meter run (10:47.22).

Hinrichs qualified for sectionals in the 3,200 as well, placing fourth with a time of 10:55.72.

The New Bloomfield girls had seven athletes qualify for sectionals in individual events.

Madi Branch placed second in the javelin with a throw of 98 feet, 8 inches, while Aislin Jennings also took second in the 300 hurdles in 54.44 seconds.

Third-place finishers for the Lady Wildcats include Brooke Talbot in the pole vault (7-6), Samantha Haas in the triple jump (32-6.25) and Auburn Feathers in the discus (99-10).

Ella Stevens also qualified for sectionals in the discus for New Bloomfield, finishing fourth with a throw of 97-0. Mikaela Lemelin also placed fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 13:41.37.

The New Bloomfield girls advanced to sectionals in one relay event. The 4x400-meter relay of Talbot, Makenna Branch, Mackenzie Garrett and Jennings finished in second place with a time of 4:24.94.
