Track and field: Lewis leads North Callaway at EMO conference meet

WRIGHT CITY - North Callaway senior Paden Lewis won conference titles in two events Wednesday at the Eastern Missouri Conference meet.

Lewis helped the Thunderbirds to a fourth-place finish in the team standings with 93.5 points. Bowling Green won the conference title with 175 points, followed by Van-Far in second with 121 points and Montgomery County third with 105.

The Lady Thunderbirds took third place with 98 points. Montgomery County won the girls title out of 11 schools, finishing with 199.5 points. Bowling Green was second with 183.5.

Lewis won the boys shot put and discus with ease. His throw of 53 feet, 0.25 inches in the shot put won by more than 10 feet, while his throw of 154-8 in the discus won by more than 38 feet.

Also recording a first-place finish for the North Callaway boys was senior Zeb Meffert. He won the pole vault by clearing a height of 12-0.

The lone win for the North Callaway girls came from sophomore Olivia Isaacks, who posted a first-place height of 4-10 in the high jump.

The Lady Thunderbirds had three runner-up finishes and five third-place finishes at the meet.

Sophomore Kaleigh Moore placed second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:49.27. She also took third in the 800-meter run in 2:32.25.

Junior Daelyn Schmauch came in second place in the girls 3,200-meter run in 13:28.46. She added a third-place finish behind Moore in the 1,600 with a time of 5:54.59.

Senior Christa Gilman took second place in the girls triple jump with a distance of 30-6.25. Sophomore Mikayla Pennell placed third in the discus with a throw of 97-5, while sophomore Brittany Hawkins was third in the shot put with a throw of 32-3.25.

The Lady Thunderbirds' best finish in the relays came in the 4x100-meter relay. Junior Ellie Eckert, senior Heather Thurman and freshmen Kyanne Kellerman and Hannah Cundiff posted a third-place time of 54.61 seconds in the event.

The North Callaway boys had four second-place finishes in conference.

Senior Carson Poe was second behind Meffert in the pole vault, clearing 10-0 to give the Thunderbirds 18 points in the event. Junior William Jeffries also gave North Callaway a 1-2 finish in the discus, taking second with a throw of 115-11.

Senior Khobi Kellerman finished second in the boys 1,600 with a time of 4:57.32.

The boys 4x100 relay also took second for North Callaway. Sophomore Dakota Cash, freshman Trevor Ray, junior Cody Lee and Poe clocked a time of 46.46 seconds.

Lee added a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 38-2.5.

North Callaway wraps up the regular season Monday with a meet at Centralia.
