Boys' basketball: Marshall 65, Fulton 47

MARSHALL - The struggling Hornets were outscored by the Owls 35-22 in the second half of Tuesday night's North Central Missouri Conference loss.

Fulton has now dropped eight of its last 10 in falling to 8-11 overall and 2-4 in the NCMC. The Hornets also bowed to Marshall 99-92 in double overtime Dec. 7 in Fulton.

The Hornets were only down 16-13 after one quarter Tuesday night and trailed 30-25 at halftime. However, the Owls outscored Fulton 21-15 in the third quarter to widen their lead to 51-40, then sealed the victory by outscoring the Hornets 14-7 in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Taeon Logan hit 8-of-15 shots in producing 19 points to guide Fulton, which shot 41 percent (19-of-46) as a team. Junior forward John Adams logged 10 points.

"It wasn't our best offensive performance of the year," Hornets head coach Justin Gilmore said. "We really struggled to finish shots in the paint and had some untimely turnovers that really cost us."

Jace Lance broke out for a game-high 32 points to direct Marshall, which shot 48 percent (25-of-52) from the field. Ben Haug chipped in with 12 points and Jaylen Varner finished with 11.

"Marshall is a very talented team, but I thought our guys did a great job defensively at making them prove it from deep and shutting down their driving lanes," Gilmore said. "We'll have to get on the same page on both sides of the ball if we want to win some tough games down the stretch."

Fulton travels to Hannibal for an NCMC contest at 6 p.m. Friday. The Hornets lost to the Pirates 67-57 on Dec. 4 in Fulton.

The Hornets then host a rescheduled NCMC matchup against Kirksville at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium. Fulton edged the Tigers 55-52 on Dec. 14 in Kirksville.
