Girls' basketball: St. Clair 79, South Callaway 56

COLUMBIA - South Callaway was roughed up by Class 4 St. Clair in a matchup between Lady Bulldogs at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Classic at Father Tolton on Saturday night.

South Callaway (16-6) - which has lost two of its last three - was down 21-14 after one quarter and trailed 44-32 at halftime. St. Clair (17-5) pulled away by outscoring South Callaway 25-11 in the third quarter to build a commanding 69-43 lead.

"Taking on a 4A team has its positive and negative aspects this time of year," South Callaway head coach Darren Humphrey said. "Yes, we found we have some work to do, but it was clear that the South Callaway girls do not quit until the game is over.

"St. Clair is an extremely physical team. By trying to match that style of play, we found ourselves in foul trouble early."

Sophomore guard Paige Clubb topped South Callaway with 17 points. Freshmen guards Raegan Brown and Hailee Potter tallied 16 and 14 points, respectively.

"Offensively, against many teams in our area, if you have three players in double digits, that's a great night, and most of the time a win," Humphrey said. "That wasn't the case in this game."

Gracie Sohn delivered a game-high 27 points for St. Clair, which has won 12 in a row. Alohilani Bursey logged 22 points.

South Callaway played a Show-Me Conference game at Linn on Monday night. Results were not available at press time.
