Girls' basketball: North Callaway 32, Silex 31

SILEX - The Ladybirds erased a seven-point deficit by outscoring the Lady Owls 10-2 in the fourth quarter to rally for the narrow Eastern Missouri Conference win Friday night.

The contest was tied at 8-all after one quarter and Silex edged North Callaway 13-12 in the second quarter to take a 21-20 lead at halftime. The Lady Owls then outscored the Ladybirds 8-2 in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 29-22, before North Callaway produced its comeback over the final 8 minutes.

Junior guard Daelyn Schmauch logged a game-high 16 points and came up with five steals to guide the Ladybirds (10-12, 5-3 EMO), who have won two straight and five of their last six. Senior guard Kenzie Ausfahl added 10 points - including a pair of 3-pointers - and had six rebounds.

"The girls had two options (in fourth quarter) - surrender and give up, or keep fighting," North Callaway head coach Morgan Beamer said. "They kept fighting and didn't stop.

"It feels good to finish a game."

Mollie Stanek connected on four 3s in finishing with 14 points to pace Silex (10-13, 3-4).

North Callaway returns home for an EMO matchup against Mark Twain at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
