Boys' basketball: T-Birds stifle Silex in 50-33 EMO win

SILEX - North Callaway senior guard Khobi Kellerman accounted for a game-high 21 points as the Thunderbirds subdued Silex in a 50-33 Eastern Missouri Conference victory Friday night.

North Callaway (17-6, 7-1 EMO) - which has won three of its last four - owned a 12-5 advantage after one quarter and was in front 22-10 at halftime. The Thunderbirds carried a 35-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

Kellerman - who hit two 3-pointers - also grabbed nine rebounds, while senior guard Dawson Wright provided 10 points and three steals for North Callaway. Senior forward Mark Hollenberg pulled down nine rebounds and sophomore guard Cody Cash handed out five assists.

"We played with a lot of defensive energy - when you only give up 33 points in 32 minutes, I'll take that against anybody, anywhere," Thunderbirds head coach Matt Miller said. "We had a lot of deflections, we did a good job of helping one another and we rebounded the heck out of the ball on both ends of the floor."

Tommy Grote led Silex (4-16, 1-7) with 12 points.

North Callaway hosts Mark Twain in an EMO contest at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
