Boys' basketball: Fayette, 57, New Bloomfield 26

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The Wildcats suffered their sixth straight loss after being outscored by the Falcons 34-12 in the second half of Tuesday night's nonconference contest.

New Bloomfield (7-13) owned a slim 6-5 lead after one quarter, but Fayette outscored the Wildcats 18-8 in the second quarter to carry a 23-14 advantage into halftime. The Falcons then turned the game into a blitz by outscoring New Bloomfield 23-5 in the third quarter to craft an insurmountable 46-19 lead.

Sophomore forward Tanner Payne led the Wildcats with seven points.

"We got off to a great start defensively," New Blooomfield head coach Tim Gilmore said. "Fayette did a nice job in the second half of turning us over. We have to make sure to value the basketball more and limit our turnovers for four quarters.

"It was a great learning experience for our younger players to understand the importance of playing focused/hard for four quarters."

The Wildcats - 2-3 in the Show-Me Conference - travel to Tuscumbia for a conference game at 7:30 tonight. New Bloomfield then squares off against South Callaway in the rescheduled fifth-place game of the South Callaway Tournament at 3 p.m. Saturday.
