High school track and field: New Bloomfield track teams both take second at Hallsville

HALLSVILLE - New Bloomfield sophomore Caleb Dister prevailed in the 800 meters and freshman Nathan Hinrichs was victorious in the 1,600 to help steer the Wildcats to a second-place finish at the Tomahawk Invitational on Friday.

Distler triumphed in the 800 in 2 minutes, 11.93 seconds and Hinrichs won the 1,600 in 5:03.39 as New Bloomfield amassed 115 points.

In the girls' division, New Bloomfield freshman Mikaela Lemelin was victorious in the 3,200 in 13:59.53 and took second in the 1,600 (6:16.02) as the Lady Wildcats came in second as a team with 111 points.

Hinrichs also finished second in the 3,200 (11:21.68) and Distler followed in third (11:30.32). The pair teamed with senior Aliczander Nikonowicz and freshman Brian Figard to prevail in the 3,200 relay in 9:17.46.

Junior Easton Ambler was second in the 110 hurdles (:17.16) and third in the 300 hurdles (:45.39) for the Wildcats. Nikonowicz finished second in the 300 hurdles (:45.09), while sophomore Adam Deppe took second in the long jump (18 feet, 10 3/4 inches) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (:46.69).

Figard came in third in the 800 (2:18.42) and sophomore Keaton Herron placed third in the javelin (103-2). Senior Conner Edwards was fourth in the 200 (:26.32).

Edwards, freshmen Jace Pitzen and Lane Tate, and sophomore Joe Loseman finished third in the 400 relay (:49.92). Edwards also joined with Ambler, Nikonowicz and Deppe to take third in the 800 relay (1:39.43).

Ambler, Figard, Distler and Nikonowicz came in third in the 1,600 relay (4:02.29).

Freshman Brooke Talbot took second in the pole vault (7-6) and fourth in the 100 (:15.08) for the Lady Wildcats. Freshman Jillian Pry placed second in the 3,200 (14:16.67) and fourth in the 1,600 (6:26.14).

Junior Abbie Schattgen was second in the 800 (2:52.64), junior Madi Branch finished second in the javelin (93-10), and junior Ella Stevens came in second in the discus (90-11). Freshman Abby Baxter took fourth in both the 400 (1:16.00) and long jump (14-5).

Talbot, sophomore Makenna Branch, senior Mackenzie Garrett and sophomore Aislin Jennings was second in the 1,600 relay (4:36.17). Jennings, Makenna Branch, senior Parker Pitzen and Talbot finished third in the 400 relay (:57.00), while Garrett, senior Samantha Haas, Makenna Branch and Pitzen came in third in the 800 relay (2:02.75).

Lemelin, Garrett, junior Kylie Quinn and Schattgen took third in the 3,200 relay (11:57.11).

Centralia completed a sweep of the girls' and boys' team titles, logging 187.33 and 124 points, respectively.

New Bloomfield takes part in the California Invitational at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
