Softball: New Bloomfield 22, Wellsville 9

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The Lady Wildcats piled on 14 runs in the bottom of the first inning in slamming the Lady Tigers in Friday night's non-conference rout.

New Bloomfield (6-3) tacked on five more runs in the second and three in the third as the game was called on the mercy rule.

Freshman second baseman Jenna Nichols went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, four runs batted in and a run scored to help trigger the Lady Wildcats' nine-hit attack. Senior left fielder Parker Pitzen finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, four RBI and scored twice.

Senior center fielder Mackenzie Garrett finished 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior shortstop Haley Berhorst was 1-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and scored twice.

Sophomore third baseman Sarah Abbott went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and three runs scored.

Freshman starter Asya Nichols went the distance for the victory, giving up seven runs - only three earned - on seven hits as New Bloomfield committed three errors. Nichols (3-1) struck out two and walked one.

The Lady Wildcats hosted a non-conference matchup with Hallsville on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.
