Baseball: Harrisburg 11, New Bloomfield 3

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The second-seeded Wildcats' season came to an end in Tuesday night's loss to the No. 3 Bulldogs in the semifinals of the Class 2, District 7 Tournament.

Harrisburg broke out for four runs in the top of the second inning, but New Bloomfield made it 4-3 when it tallied all three of its runs in the bottom of the third. However, the Bulldogs took control by scoring two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

The Wildcats - who won at Harrisburg 8-3 on April 9 - finished the season with six straight losses to end up with a 9-14 record.

Sophomore first baseman Robbie Bradley was 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in Tuesday night as New Bloomfield out-hit the Bulldogs 8-7 but left nine runners on base. Junior left fielder Clayton Martin went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while junior right fielder Conner Edwards finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior starter Jacob Lane suffered the loss for the Wildcats, surrendering nine runs - only five earned - on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Lane (3-3) issued six walks and struck out four.

Top-seeded Russellville manhandled No. 4 New Franklin 11-1 in Tuesday's other semifinal. Russellville defeated Harrisburg 6-3 for the District 7 championship Wednesday night.
