Baseball: Blair Oaks 7, New Bloomfield 1

WARDSVILLE - The Wildcats avoided a shutout by tallying their lone run in the top of the seventh inning in Tuesday night's loss to the Falcons.

Blair Oaks was only up 1-0 before taking control by putting up two runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Sophomore first baseman Robbie Bradley singled to right leading off New Bloomfield's seventh, moved to second on a passed ball and went to third on a groundout. Freshman second baseman Breycin Dysart followed with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Bradley.

Senior starter Nick Hamman went 2-for-3 as the Wildcats (1-2) finished with six hits.

"It's early-season baseball," New Bloomfield head coach Justin Forsythe said. "We didn't play all that bad, we just had some key offensive mistakes in running the bases.

"We're breaking in a lot of new guys who haven't played varsity whatsoever."

Hamman went five innings in taking the loss, allowing five runs - four earned - on six hits. He struck out eight and walked three.

"Nick was steady and did his job," Forsythe said. "He threw a ton of strikes and kept (Blair Oaks) off-balance.

"He kept us in the game and gave us a chance to win."

The Wildcats play at Tipton at 5 p.m. today.
