Girls' basketball: Moberly 61, Fulton 47

MOBERLY - The Lady Hornets were outscored 15-3 in the first quarter of Wednesday night's North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Lady Spartans.

Fulton (3-19, 2-9 NCMC) could not make up ground after its difficult start and trailed Moberly 33-18 at the break. The Lady Hornets were down 47-31 entering the fourth quarter.

Freshman guard Carly Fisher paced Fulton with 15 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Shawnie Hempfield produced a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

"We came out flat and literally from the beginning we had to battle back," Lady Hornets head coach TJ Quick said. "With a team as good as Moberly, you almost have to be perfect - obviously we weren't."

Sydney Flood guided the Lady Spartans with a game-high 26 points.

Fulton (3-9) triumphed in the junior varsity game 34-23. Freshman forward Sydney Hedgpath finished with 11 points, three rebounds and two steals, while fellow freshman forward Paige Clines also had 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Hornets return home to end the regular season against NCMC rival Mexico at 6 tonight at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium. Fulton lost at Mexico 46-33 on Dec. 19.

"We're a completely different team now," Quick said. "I feel like we can compete with Mexico and come out with a win."
