Kelley, Lady Wildcats trample Tuscumbia in SMC rout

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Junior forward Katie Kelley responded with a game-high 20 points, including six 3-pointers, as the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats easily subdued Tuscumbia 50-19 in Thursday night's SMC blitz.

New Bloomfield (16-8, 4-3 Show-Me Conference) was in front 11-3 after one quarter and outscored Tuscumbia 11-0 in the second quarter to carry a 22-3 advantage into halftime. The Lady Wildcats then outscored the Lady Lions 16-6 in the third quarter to increase their lead to 38-9.

Junior center Samantha Haas chipped in with 13 points for New Bloomfield.

"We kept playing hard the entire game," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said. "(Tuscumbia) is a good-shooting 3-point team, so we used a half-court zone (defense) against them.

"We got out on their shooters and tried to filter them inside to Sam (Haas). We said if they're going to score, make them score in the paint."

Mackenzie Humphrey paced the Lady Lions with 10 points.

New Bloomfield is off until Thursday, Feb. 15, when it hosts a tripleheader against SMC foe St. Elizabeth. The two-quarter junior varsity game is scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by the varsity girls and boys, respectively.
