Girls' basketball: Hallsville 59, North Callaway 29

CENTRALIA - The No. 7 seed Ladybirds were outscored by the No. 6 Lady Indians 22-3 in the first quarter and were eliminated in Wednesday night's loss in the consolation semifinals of the 63rd-annual Centralia Invitational Tournament.

After its rough start, North Callaway (0-4) was down 40-15 at halftime and 49-21 to open the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Daelyn Schmauch connected on 8-of-10 free throws to pace the Ladybirds with 12 points. Schmauch and senior guard Heather Thurman shared team rebounding honors with eight apiece.

Senior guard Kenzie Ausfahl made three 3-pointers in adding 10 points for North Callaway.

"We made too many mistakes," Ladybirds head coach Morgan Beamer said. "We're going to work in practice to straighten those out."

Avery Oetting topped Hallsville (3-3) with a game-high 20 points and Emily Leer tallied 15.

North Callaway hosts Van-Far in an Eastern Missouri Conference matchup at 6 p.m. Monday.
