Baseball: Hannibal 18, Fulton 4

A rough week ended with a fifth straight loss as the Hornets were punished by the Pirates in a decisive NCMC setback at the high school athletic complex Thursday night.

Fulton managed only six hits and committed 12 errors in tumbling to 2-11 on the season and 1-9 in the North Central Missouri Conference.

Hannibal took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and then broke out for nine runs in the second. The Hornets scored two runs in their half of the second, but the Pirates responded with one in the third and four more in the fourth to widen their lead to 16-2.

Fulton produced its other two runs in the bottom of the fourth and Hannibal added two runs in the fifth to stop the game on the mercy rule.

Senior center fielder Brennan Donohue was 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs batted in and a run scored for the Hornets. Senior third baseman Solomon Huff finished 1-for-1 with an RBI, while sophomore shortstop Landon Dzurick went 1-for-2 and scored a run.

Sophomore starter Brock McCray (0-3) lasted just 1 1/3 innings in being tagged with the loss for Fulton, surrendering eight runs - seven earned - on five hits. McCray walked three and struck out two.

The Hornets remain at home for a nonconference game against Fatima at 5 p.m. Monday.
