Track and field: New Bloomfield boys barely miss out on title at Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY CITY - Senior Clay Walker won both the 100 and 200 meters as the Wildcats narrowly fell short of the team championship at the Montgomery County Invitational on Tuesday night.

New Bloomfield - which posted victories in three of the four relay races - tallied 115 points for second place, while Bowling Green captured the team title with 117.5. South Callaway came in sixth with 48.5 points and North Callaway was ninth with 36.

In the girls' division, senior Reyna Schmauch triumphed in the 1,600 as North Callaway took fourth place with 67.5 points. South Callaway followed in fifth with 56 points and New Bloomfield placed 11th with 19.5.

Walker triumphed in the 100 and 200 with respective times of 11.78 and 23.53 seconds. He also teamed with fellow seniors Payton Culwell and Jak Kitchens, and sophomore Easton Ambler to prevail in the 800 relay in 1:37.78.

Walker, Culwell and Kitchens joined with senior Kyle Emerson to take first in the 1,600 relay in 3:38.21. Culwell and Emerson combined with junior Bailey Crane and freshman Caleb Distler to win the 3,200 relay in 8:40.01.

Culwell was victorious in the 400 in :52.46 and Distler triumphed in the 3,200 in 10:58.49. Freshman Kaleb Brandt took third in the shot put (41 feet, 5 1/4 inches), while Ambler placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (:46.63) and junior Robert Morningstar finished fourth in the 3,200 (11:27.49).

Junior Wyatt Hager was the only event winner for the South Callaway boys, prevailing in the pole vault at 13-0. The Bulldogs' 800 relay of sophomore Brandon Stoker, senior Logan Brewer, freshman Hunter Martin-Hay and sophomore Noah Reece came in second (1:37.79).

Senior Hunter Schroer took fourth in the discus (130-10), while Stoker, Brewer and Reece teamed with senior Austin Meyer to finish fourth in the 400 relay (:47.78).

Junior Paden Lewis recorded the lone victory for the North Callaway boys in the shot put at 48-6 1/4. Senior Tanner Pezold finished second in the javelin (146-3) and junior Khobi Kellerman was fourth in the 800 (2:11.52).

Schmauch accounted for the only win for the North Callaway girls in the 1,600 with a time of 5:59.93. She combined with freshman Julisa Moreno and sophomores Breanna Douglas and Madison Isaacks to take second in the 3,200 relay (10:57.94).

Sophomore Daelyn Schmauch and freshman Kaleigh Moore were second (12:10.14) and third (12:12.33), respectively, in the 3,200 for the Ladybirds. Senior Abrielle Berry came in second in the shot (35-3/4), senior Nicole Emmons was second in the discus (98-5 1/2), and senior Erica Garrett finished second in the javelin (100-9).

Senior Adrian Mann won the 300 hurdles in :49.79 and was fourth in the 100 hurdles (:17.60) to guide the South Callaway girls. She also joined with senior Ashley Potter, freshman Paige Clubb and junior Hannah Benningfield to place fourth in the 400 relay (:54.88).

Clubb came in second in the 200 (:28.42) and fourth in the 100 (:13.77), while freshman DeLaney Horstman finished second in the pole vault (9-0).

The only win for the New Bloomfield girls came in the 1,600 relay as junior Mackenzie Garrett, senior Mckenna Rackers, freshman Makenna Branch and junior Parker Pitzen triumphed in 4:32.02. Junior Samantha Haas placed fourth in the triple jump (32-0).

Bowling Green also collected the girls' team title with 132 points.

New Bloomfield and South Callaway both compete in the Owensville Invitational at 4 p.m. Friday, then New Bloomfield goes to the Tomahawk Relays in Hallsville at 9 a.m. Saturday.

North Callaway travels to California at 4 p.m. next Tuesday.
