Logan steps down as Fulton football coach

Compiled 3-7 record in only season with Hornets

The Fulton Hornets suddenly find themselves in the market for their third head football coach in as many years.

Blake Logan has abruptly stepped down after only one season with the Hornets. Logan's resignation was accepted by the Fulton 58 Board of Education during its regular meeting last Wednesday night.

The reason behind Logan's sudden departure is not known. He did not respond to a text message and voicemail seeking an interview.

The Hornets finished 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the North Central Missouri Conference in their only season under the 33-year-old Logan. Fulton's season ended with a 34-15 loss to Southern Boone in the first round of Class 3, District 6 play.

Logan was named Fulton head coach in February 2017. He replaced Pat Kelley, who retired after 20 seasons with the Hornets. Logan had previously spent a year as a defensive assistant at Jefferson City after serving as head coach at Class 2 Van-Far from 2011-15.

"First of all, I'm sorry to see Blake go - I thought he did a really excellent job with our weight room," Fulton activities director Ryan Waters said Friday. "I appreciate his time here and I appreciate him working with our athletes. I wish him the best."

Waters is moving quickly to find Logan's replacement. He has targeted May 7 - about two weeks before the end of the school year - as the time frame to have the Hornets' next coach in place.

"That way, (the new coach) can scramble and get a summer schedule together, meet the guys and move forward," Waters said.

The Hornets will have to find a way to replace a senior class that accounted for a large sum of Fulton's production on both sides of the ball last season. Those departures include Missouri Southern State signee Cameron Vaughn, Lincoln signee Tre Vaughn and Makygh Galbreath, among others.
