Baseball: Fatima 21, New Bloomfield 1

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The Wildcats committed six errors and had their three-game winning streak abruptly halted as they were demolished by the Comets in Wednesday night's Show-Me Conference rout.

Fatima erupted for four runs in the second inning, six in the third and nine in the fourth, stopping the game on the mercy rule by putting up two runs in the fifth.

New Bloomfield (4-4, 1-1 SMC) scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth on junior designated hitter Luke Nadler's RBI single with two outs.

Nadler went 1-for-1 as the Wildcats finished with seven hits. Junior first baseman Clayton Martin was 2-for-3 and freshman starter Kaleb Brandt finished 1-for-2 and scored New Bloomfield's run.

Brandt (0-1) went just two innings in suffering the loss, allowing four runs - only one earned - on four hits, struck out three and walked two. Four New Bloomfield pitchers issued 10 walks.

The Wildcats are the fifth seed in the Calvary Lutheran/New Bloomfield Tournament and will play No. 4 Belle at 4 p.m. today in New Bloomfield. The winner advances to face top-seeded St. Elizabeth in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Bloomfield.

The loser of today's game plays for fifth place at 1 p.m. Saturday. The championship and third-place games are both scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday.
