Track and field: Ladybirds take third place in own T-Bird Invitational

KINGDOM CITY - North Callaway senior Abreille Berry, sophomore Daelyn Schmauch and freshman Kaleigh Moore each won events to spark the Ladybirds to a third-place team finish in their own Thunderbird Invitational on Tuesday night.

Senior Kate Pani and junior Maitane Sandonis both collected victories as the Fulton girls took fifth place overall.

In the boys' division, senior Gabe Luebbert recorded a pair of second-place finishes to pace Fulton to a fourth-place team finish. Senior Tanner Pezold, junior Paden Lewis and sophomore Zeb Meffert each earned a second-place finish as North Callaway followed in fifth place.

Berry prevailed in the shot put with a heave of 36 feet, 11 inches as the North Callaway girls amassed 100 points. Schmauch and Moore were victorious in the 800 and 1,600 meters with respective times of 2 minutes, 33.41 seconds and 5 minutes, 44.52 seconds.

Schmauch and Moore also teamed with senior Reyna Schmauch and freshman Julisa Moreno to win the 3,200 relay in 10:45.06.

Reyna Schmauch finished second in the 3,200 (12:57.89) and senior Nicole Emmons took second in the discus (98-3). Freshman Olivia Isaacks came in fourth in the triple jump (31-1 1/4) and tied with freshman teammate Olivia Brown for fourth in the high jump (both at 4-6).

The Ladybirds' quartet of Isaacks, Moreno, Moore and fellow freshman Makenna Allen placed fourth in the 1,600 relay (4:44.23).

Pani triumphed in the 200 in :27.72 and Sandonis was victorious in the 300 hurdles in :50.32 as the Fulton girls collected 86 points. The duo then joined with senior Adrea Shadbolt and sophomore Madalyn Henley to win the 400 relay in :53.67.

Pani also finished second in the long jump (15-5 1/2) and Sandonis came in third in the 100 hurdles (:18.07). Freshman Kayanna Gaines took second in the 800 (2:42.47) and third in the 1,600 (6:00.16), while Henley placed second in the 300 hurdles (:54.00).

Junior Mollie Huff came in fourth in both the 800 (2:46.52) and 1,600 (6:24.70) for the Lady Hornets.

Luebbert was second in both the 800 (2:05.20) and 1,600 (4:40.85) as the Fulton boys compiled 73 points. Senior Mason Gaines finished second in the 3,200 (10:16.61) and third in the 1,600 (4:45.61).

Junior John Cummings took third in the shot (42-7 1/2) and senior LeCheyon Williams followed in fourth (41-5 1/2).

Luebbert teamed with senior Tommy Kingsley and juniors Taeon Logan and Keshawn Maxwell to place third in the 1,600 relay (3:43.37). The Hornets' 400 relay of Williams, Logan, Maxwell and Kingsley also came in third (:46.90).

Pezold was second in the javelin (143-9) as the North Callaway boys tallied 64 points. Lewis finished second in the shot (49-1) and Meffert took second in the pole vault (11-6).

Senior Skyler Barker placed third in the 110 hurdles (:18.36) for the Thunderbirds and sophomore Will Jeffries came in fourth in the discus (123-4).

North Callaway competes at Montgomery County next Tuesday, while Fulton travels to Osage. Both meets start at 4 p.m.
