MOKANE, Mo. - Peyton Leeper served as the sizzling switch for another electric effort by South Callaway's potent offense.

South Callaway's junior tailback ran for three scores and also caught a touchdown pass, and the state-ranked Bulldogs generated almost 500 yards of total offense in a 49-13 EMO homecoming blitz of Mark Twain on Friday night.

South Callaway - tied for 10th in Class 2 - logged its second straight victory to raise its season record to 5-1 and its EMO mark to 3-1. The Bulldogs amassed 480 yards of total offense, including 390 yards rushing.

"I felt like we did a great job up front, we executed really well and we ran the ball really well," South Callaway head coach Zack Hess said. "We got out on the perimeter for some long runs and we hit on some passes.

"There was a lot to like."

The Bulldogs' first score came on a 2-yard touchdown run by senior tailback Dalton Stone with 10 minutes, 50 seconds to play in the first quarter. Leeper followed up by scoring on a 5-yard run at the 7:59 mark to stretch South Callaway's lead to 14-0.

Mark Twain, though, scrambled back behind touchdown passes of 6 and 47 yards in the quarter to close the gap to one point. Senior tailback Kaden Helsel countered with a 2-yard touchdown run with :48 remaining to put South Callaway on top 21-13.

Leeper then caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Landon Horstman with 2:25 left in the first half to push the Bulldogs' lead to 15 points. Leeper also supplied touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards in the second half as South Callaway took control and turned the game into a runaway.

The Bulldogs' other second-half score came on Horstman's 75-yard touchdown run.

Helsel topped South Callaway with a game-high 143 yards rushing on 15 carries, while Horstman tallied 117 yards in nine attempts. Leeper gained 65 yards on 13 carries and Stone had 51 yards in nine attempts.

Leeper completed 5-of-8 passes for 46 yards and an interception. Horstman was 3-of-7 passing for 44 yards and the one score. Helsel made three catches for 42 yards.

"I thought Coach (offensive coordinator Tucker) Bartley did a great job of dialing up plays in certain situations," Hess said. "Everybody got involved."

Mark Twain (1-5, 0-4) - which suffered its fifth loss in a row - produced 251 yards of total offense, including 164 yard passing.

"They (Tigers) did some things offensively that we did not prepare for during the week and caught us off-guard," Hess said. "Our run defense was stout all night long and we settled down (otherwise) in the second half."

South Callaway remains at home this week for an EMO game against Bowling Green. The Bobcats (3-3, 3-1) had their three-game winning streak halted in a 55-28 EMO home loss to Montgomery County on Friday night.
