Garrett launches Lady Wildcats to 4-2 SMC win over Eugene

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - New Bloomfield junior center fielder Mackenzie Garrett had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs Thursday night to spark the Lady Wildcats to a 4-2 SMC win over Eugene.

New Bloomfield (8-3, 3-1 Show-Me Conference) trailed 1-0 when Garrett delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman starter Sarah Abbott followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1.

Eugene got a run back in the top of the fifth, but Garrett answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to seal the Lady Wildcats' win.

"Mackenzie attacked every ball she swung at and was making the pitcher throw to her," New Bloomfield head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said.

Garrett finished 3-for-3 as the Lady Wildcats accumulated 12 hits. Abbott was also 3-for-3, while senior shortstop Madi Craighead went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Abbott went the distance to collect the victory, giving up two earned runs on nine hits. She struck out three and issued two walks.

New Bloomfield lost the junior varsity game 5-4.
