Withers finishes second at Class 1 golf championships

BOLIVAR, Mo. - Gannon Withers completed his high school golf career in spectacular fashion.

The New Bloomfield senior shot a 76 in Tuesday's final round to take second place at the Class 2 state championships at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club.

Withers - a four-time state qualifier - logged a 153 total, coming in three shots behind state champion Logan Smith from La Plata. Smith finished with a 150 score (76-74).

Withers' best previous outcome at the state championships was a tie for 10th place in 2015. He also tied for 31st in 2016 and tied for 42nd in 2014.

At the Class 2 state championships Tuesday at Fremont Hills Country Club in Nixa, South Callaway senior Blake Parker supplied an 82 in the final round to finish 22nd with a 165 total.

A two-time state qualifier, Parker tied for 54th last year.

Father Tolton's Jack Parker captured the Class 2 individual state championship with a 141 score (72-69) on Tuesday.
